A food allergy is an instant reaction to a food, the reaction causes an obvious inflammatory response and usually occurs within one hour of eating the offending food. True allergies are quite rare and affect about 10% of the population.
Food intolerances on the other hand affect up to 45% of the population and can be difficult to identify. A food intolerance is your body’s abnormal reaction to certain foods, which causes the immune system to ‘attack’ food in the same way it would a bacteria and virus. This in time will deplete the body and may cause more serious conditions over time. A food intolerance test is carried out at the first consultation. When the offending foods are identified and eliminated, and a programme designed to repair and strengthen the body, the immune system’s reaction to these foods can be switched off and the foods can be re-introduced over time without symptoms.
The food intolerance test checks over 114 foods including:
Dairy Products – Cow’s milk, yogurt, cheese, cream.
Grains – Wheat, Oats, Rye, Barley.
Tea, Coffee, Chocolate.
All fruits including citrus fruit.
Food additives and food colourings.
